The carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (GHG), especially carbon dioxide (CO₂), emitted directly or indirectly by human activities. These emissions are the main driver of climate change and its devastating effects: rising temperatures, ecosystem disruption, and biodiversity loss.
Why is it urgent to reduce our carbon footprint?
Every ton of CO₂ we emit contributes to global warming. Science is clear: to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 is essential. This requires significant emission reductions and, crucially, the removal of CO₂ already present in the atmosphere.
Reforestation: a proven scientific solution
Mature forests act as natural carbon sinks, absorbing approximately 22 kg of CO₂ per tree annually. Reforestation not only captures carbon but also restores biodiversity, protects watersheds, and improves air quality, enhancing climate resilience for communities.
Reforest Trees and partners: innovation and transparency in action
At Reforest Trees, we collaborate with strategic allies to maximize impact and transparency for each project:
- Open Forest Protocol: We implement advanced technologies to verify the growth and carbon capture in our restored forests, ensuring every tree planted represents a real, measurable contribution to climate change mitigation.
- Explorer Land: Our platform allows donors and companies to track the progress of forest projects in real-time, promoting transparency and engagement.
- Tree-Nation: We integrate this global network to expand the reach of our initiatives and ensure sustainable reforestation practices.
- GainForest: We collaborate to enhance conservation and restoration, combining digital tools and science to measure environmental and social impact.
Regions where we are working
Currently, our reforestation projects are active in various regions of Peru, including:
- Santa Rosa de Runuya, Ucayali: Launched in November 2023, focusing on reforestation, conservation, and natural forest management in the Amazonian region of Ucayali.
- Jacayhuanca, Junín: Started in June 2023, involving reforestation, agroforestry, education, and restoration in the Andean region of Junín..
- Porvenir Miraflores, Junín: Began in January 2023, a 900-hectare project focusing on reforestation, conservation, and natural forest management in the Andean region of Junín.
- Chuquisiunca, Junín: Started in May 2023, a 1,500-hectare project including reforestation, education, and research in the Andean region of Junín.
- Cochas Alto, Junín: Launched in April 2023, including reforestation, agroforestry, education, and conservation in the Andean region of Junín.
A call to action: reduce your footprint, drive change
Reducing the carbon footprint is a collective responsibility. Companies, governments, and individuals can contribute by adopting sustainable practices and supporting certified, transparent reforestation initiatives like those of Reforest Trees.
Every tree planted is a tangible investment in our planet’s future, protecting biodiversity, strengthening communities, and combating climate change.
Join us and our partners in this vital mission. Together, we can transform the carbon footprint into hope and action.
